Hilton Resort
From receiving clerk to the front desk.
Six years across receiving, accounts, front desk and night audit
Receiving and accounts
I started as a receiving clerk, then worked as a storekeeper, general cashier and in accounts receivable before moving to the front desk. In receiving, I checked that goods met the resort’s standards and had the required documents before they entered the operation.
Recovering and correcting older balances
In accounts receivable, I called the right contacts and followed up overdue balances, including accounts more than 90 days overdue and balances dating back around eight months. I also checked banking records and posted payments that had been received but were missing from customer accounts. Some balances needed collection; others needed correction.
Front desk and night audit
I moved into front-desk work and also carried out night audit, including its accounting checks on the day’s activity. Across the resort, I worked with systems including Sun Systems, OnQ and Fidelio.
Returning a guest’s belongings
One guest had left property behind while continuing a cruise journey from Oman towards Quebec. I contacted DHL and arranged the return, with the guest paying the shipping. I handled the courier arrangements so the belongings could reach the guest after they had left Oman.
Skills in practice
Receiving controls, accounts receivable, reconciliation, guest service and night audit.
