Sharp Edges
Building a product business around material quality.
Barber and grooming products I sold, and the supply issues that stopped the business.
What I brought to market
I opened Sharp Edges to test barber and grooming accessories. I sold items including manicure and scissor sets, trimmers, aprons and shaving kits, working with a production team in Pakistan on handmade products.
The material and production problem
I wanted consistent material quality, including access to the Japanese steel I preferred. I could not obtain it reliably, and the alternatives available to my team did not consistently meet the standard I wanted. Production and cash flow also constrained what I could supply.
Why I stopped
There was product demand, but I could not consistently deliver the intended quality. I stopped because the supply arrangement could not support the standard I wanted for the brand.
Before returning to the market
I am interested in returning to this area. First, I would need to establish reliable material access, sample approval, repeatable quality and enough working capital to fulfil orders.
